1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how CityTides ("we," "us," or "the Service") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our website. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here. CityTides is intended for use within the continental United States only.

2. Information We Collect

We collect only the information needed to operate the Service:

• Email address — when you post a community listing, we collect your email to send a one-time verification code and to let you manage your listing. If you contact us, we receive the email address you write from.
• Listing content — the title, description, category, price, display name, and general location (city/area) you choose to include in a listing.
• Location you search — the ZIP code or city you enter to view local information. We do not collect your precise device GPS location.
• Usage and device data — standard analytics such as pages viewed, approximate region, browser type, and similar information, collected through the third-party services described below.

We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13 years of age.

3. How We Use Information

• To verify that a person posting a listing controls the email they provide;
• To display community listings and respond to inquiries;
• To operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Service;
• To detect and prevent spam, fraud, and abuse.

What is shown publicly: when your listing appears on the board, only the display name you choose is shown. Your verification email address is not displayed publicly.

4. Third-Party Services We Use

We rely on trusted third-party providers to run the Service. These providers process data on our behalf or under their own privacy policies:

• Supabase — secure database hosting for listings and verification codes.
• Resend — sending verification-code emails.
• Google Analytics — website usage analytics.
• Google AdSense — advertising. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve and measure ads.
• Data providers — weather, tide, traffic, gas, events, and similar data come from third-party sources (e.g., OpenWeather, NOAA/National Weather Service, TomTom, Ticketmaster, Google).

5. Cookies & Advertising

CityTides and its third-party partners (including Google) use cookies and similar technologies for analytics and advertising. Google AdSense may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. We do not sell your personal information for money. However, our use of advertising and analytics cookies may be considered a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for targeted advertising under some U.S. state privacy laws — see the next section for how to opt out. For visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK, and Switzerland, we use a consent management tool that asks for your choices before non-essential cookies are set. You can learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and manage ad personalization at adssettings.google.com. You can also control cookies through your browser settings.

6. Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

Although we do not sell your information for money, showing personalized ads through Google AdSense may count as a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for "targeted advertising" or "cross-context behavioral advertising" under certain state laws. You can opt out at any time on our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page. Opting out switches you to non-personalized ads — you'll still see ads, but they won't be based on your prior activity. Because we honor this choice using a setting stored in your browser, you'll need to set it again if you clear your browser data or switch browsers or devices.

7. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your state of residence (for example, California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and others), you may have rights to:

• Request access to the personal information we hold about you;
• Request that we correct or delete your personal information;
• Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, or its use for targeted advertising;
• Decline non-essential cookies where a consent prompt is shown.

To exercise the advertising opt-out, use the Do Not Sell or Share page. For all other requests — including access, correction, or deletion of your listing or email — contact us at contact@citytides.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. Because we collect very little, the personal information we hold is often just the email you provided with a listing, which you can ask us to remove at any time.

8. Data Retention

We keep listing information for as long as a listing is active (listings auto-expire after 30 days) and for a reasonable period afterward for recordkeeping and abuse prevention. Email verification codes are short-lived and expire shortly after they are issued. You may request deletion of your listing or associated information as described above.

9. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and access controls on our database. Sensitive operations are handled server-side and certain data (such as verification codes) is not publicly accessible. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes take effect when posted on this page, and the "Last updated" date will reflect the most recent revision.
